The 2023 CCSA Issues of Substance Conference

After a four-year break from in-person conferences, the Canadian Centre on Substance Use & Addiction returned with its Issues of Substance conference—this time at the Convention Centre in beautiful downtown Vancouver, BC! The event was held from November 20th to 22nd. At Love With Boundaries, we knew that we needed to be a part of this amazing collaboration of research and ideas in the field of Addiction, Mental Health and Recovery, so we packed up our offices and headed down there for … [Read more...] about The 2023 CCSA Issues of Substance Conference

Honouring International Overdose Awareness Day: Remembering, Supporting, and Advocating for Change

International Overdose Awareness Day, observed on August 31st each year, is a solemn occasion dedicated to remembering the lives lost to drug overdose, supporting those currently struggling, and advocating for change. I am deeply worried about some of the things we’ve been hearing about, and most of them have had a harm-reduction slant, rather than a full-recovery perspective. There are many approaches to addiction counselling and recovery – many different viewpoints about what might create the best results. I’m going to share mine here. My perspective is one that comes from lived experience. As an … [Read more...] about Overdosing on the Job? Naloxone to the Rescue! Part One

Matthew Perry: Addiction and Recovery

Okay, I’ll admit it – I’m a “Friends” fan. I have been since its inception so many years ago, and I’ve been known to watch a rerun every now and then. That show told an amazing story of six young people with very different personalities, values, and opinions who simply loved each other through all of it and would always have each other’s backs. It was funny and heartwarming, all at the same time. My favourite character was Chandler Bing – I loved his irreverent sense of humour and, let’s face … [Read more...] about Matthew Perry: Addiction and Recovery
